Act of Kindness Reaps Benefits for Chamber Member
// Thursday, 9-Oct-2008 by Webmaster

By Dr. Chuck Wall

Ben Dominguez, owner of Oasis Air Conditioning in Bakersfield (and a Hispanic Chamber member), recently attended a seminar I conducted for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. After my presentation, Ben purchased a packet of our kindness coins to share with his employees. He told me the following story the very next week.

Luis, one of Ben's sales representatives, had an appointment with a potential customer at the customer's place of business. When he and the customer sat down to discuss the proposal for air conditioning work, it was quite obvious that the price was more than the competitor's quote. After some discussion, it seemed there was little hope of getting the contract, but before he left Luis asked that his proposal be given another look. Oasis is a very reputable firm and while the price may be higher the quality of service could not be matched.

Fabian Nunez, Speaker of the Assembly; Magda Menendez; Assemblywoman Nicole Parra.

Each year Assembly Woman Nicole Parra recognizes someone as "Woman of the Year" for the 30th Assembly District. The annual ceremony gives her the opportunity to honor an outstanding woman in her district who has actively worked toward making a difference in our community.

"I am pleased to announce this year's recipient is Magda Menendez", says Assemblywoman Parra. Magda has been with the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation since 1981 where she is responsible for the day-to-day program operation; as well as supervision of 29 full-time employees and 12 programs that provide daily employment training services for over 300 Kern County residents.

In addition to her employment, Magda is currently serving as a Board Member for the Workforce Board of Kern, Inyo and Mono Counties; she is a founding members of the Latina Leaders of Kern County, a Governing Board Member of the Kern County Network for Children; a Board Member of the Blanch and Irma Weill Foundation, and serves as the Vice President of the Richard Prato East Bakersfield Senior Center.
